Made weak by time and fate,
but strong in will;
To seek, to strive, to find, and not to yield.

Side Note:
The fork. or Also known as "A Dingle-hopper" Reminds me of one who not only had amazing hair (that I would pretend I had as I swam in our pool as a young girl) but also for me represents a young woman who loved learning about everything and anything. Who pushed past barriers and boundaries to find her place in this world. In this industry education is key and you are always always learning. Everyday! And with that requires perseverance to reach goals. The industry of beauty is all about testing, pushing and surpassing barriers and boundaries. This industry is truly SWEET!!!!

Ode to Hair.

This is Dana. She had massive amazing curly hair. When I was done with her she said, " I have never seen my curl so curly and so awesome". YES!
So why I love hair is simple. I love creating new perspective in a person. Show them something they may have not seen, noticed about themselves or even knew their hair could do before. Although the trick is doing this while giving the guest in your chair the look they desire most.
Story:
I competed in the Vidal Sassoon contest we had @ school. I wanted to give spunk and major trend to an aspiring makeup artist who agreed to let me do as I pleased. My vision, an asymmetrical, off center A lined bob with a stack.
I did not win this competition however my instructor said that if I had straightened her hair instead of going with her natural curl, my stack would have won it for me. The winner from school received the opportunity to head to Vidal Sassoon headquarters and compete again there.
The girl who won it all..... She created a asymmetrical A lined bob with a stack and styled using the natural curl... LOL. Great minds think a like I think. My instructor said that my stack was amazing and so much better than the Vidal winner. Too bad the Vidal judges hadn't been @ our school for the 1st judging.... However I loved that I took the risk! And come to find out that my thought process was right on.
The point being..... I love hair. How different the perspective can be from one person to the next. How the styles are the same but metamorphosis into something different every season. I have my favorite looks yes, but being able to create what the guest is aching for is the goal. Here are some of my beaming guests. They came, they expressed their hair desires and I gave it too them. Seeing them beam with pleasure in the mirror as they leave the chair... that is the most rewarding moment!

Sweet friend Nikki couldn't get her hair to stay curled for not even a whole day... After I got my hands on it, it stayed wearable for 2 days and helped her in being able to create long wearing curl for herself.

Amazing gorgeous Suzy. I love this woman! We've done lots of fun things with her hair from Platinum, to addition of low lights. I love the depth of low lights and a solid under color.

Below is Kaylala one of my dearest and funnest friends. We had matching hair all through Cosmo school. Blonde with dark violet peekaboo's @the fridge and by the ears. Twins we would say, separated by a decade and parents. LOL.

Also my spunky niece Julie. She wanted lots of layers. I A lined the layering to keep length around the face but give her lots of volume in the back.

Kakie, my sister in a braid that started as a fringe braid and ended down the back.

Jeanette, one of my mom's best friends and I love her to pieces. She wanted highlights to camouflage her gray. I added low lights and a solid section of the same low light color form the occipital to the nape. TaDa! Blonde au natural!

This wonderful woman is Durrie, (i love her name!) Sometimes I think she's a mysterious retired actress. Maybe it's the shades or the wonderful insightful conversation she makes of music, art and style. She shaved her head a few years ago in an effort to "start over" with her hair! Amazing! She likes spunk but is wanting length so I give it to her with an A line. Last cut we did I softened the back by razoring it so it was more piecey and feathery. Not such a hard line @ the nape.

My niece TaterTot (that's what I call her)
I was able to do her 1st highlighting and hair color for her 12th birthday. We did caramel and red . So cute for her.

And this lady is my model for the Vidal show. Martinique who is an aspiring makeup artist. I loved the cut on her. Gave her a nice edge and tons of volume @ the crown! Maybe someday I'll attempt to rock this cut. I love it.

Ok maybe love is too small, obsessed might be a better description. I can't get enough!
I hope that soon (in the next week or so.... I pray) I can receive the opportunity of an amazing assistant stylist position, working with someone or people who love it and obsess as much as I do. Who see my drive, my love and my potential and who can give me the continued education I crave! I want more more more!!!!! And if you're in the need for something new, or a refresh on your cut/color...... call me would ya! I'd love to give you hair that makes you smile.
Combs, color, and cuts....... Amanda

hmmmmm

Ok, so I am too emotional today for it to be normal or ok. I think I might need some medication... I feel as sad as that statement sounds. Stupid Polycystic CRAP!!! It's totally sending me into chaos.
Between dealing with the lasting result of fatigue from having Valley Fever symptoms 7 yrs ago and now the added junk of polycystic symptoms.......... bleh!
For those of you who don't know I have poly-cystic ovarian syndrome. Meaning my ovaries don't want to work anymore so they start to produce and egg and in about the 3rd step of forming, it stops and can't be released so I have pokadotted ovaries (cyst's)
The symptoms are: (The highlighted ones are me)
  • Infertility (not able to get pregnant) because of not ovulating. In fact, PCOS is the most common cause of female infertility. (although we don't know if I am until I start trying to get prego. Bran and I have not yet come to an agreement on this subject)
  • Infrequent, absent, and/or irregular menstrual periods. My cycle became absent and I though I was preggs but no.
  • Hirsutism (HER-suh-tiz-um) — increased hair growth on the face, chest, stomach, back, thumbs, or toes. Also thought I was preggs when I started to see sprouting on chest.
  • Cysts on the ovaries
  • Acne, oily skin, or dandruff This one and the next are super sucky and when ya add the anxiety and depression with it....... Yah. You can imagine I'm sure. When my skin when crazy I was so frustrated because I had no idea what was affecting it.
  • Weight gain or obesity, usually with extra weight around the waist This one is also rough and the fun part of it, polycystic also makes your body not want to let it go.
  • Male-pattern baldness or thinning hair.... Hopefully never. I don't think I could handle it.
  • Patches of skin on the neck, arms, breasts, or thighs that are thick and dark brown or black. Also have not noticed this.
  • Skin tags — excess flaps of skin in the armpits or neck area. I have one skin tag under my arm but it's been there as long as I can remember.
  • Pelvic pain. Thank goodness no.
  • Anxiety or depression
  • The one above has not been fun as I went through bouts of these when I was pregnant with Tessa. The doc gave me a perscription for Zoloft an anti depressant to help but just thinking of taking it stressed me out more. So I oped not to take it. After Tessa came I felt back to myself in about 4 months but then that's when my migranes started and I would have days where I would feel so yucky. I started Beauty School in Feb (When Tessa turned 1) and in school the other symptoms came. 1st my skin, then my fatigue got so bad I was falling asleep in class. Anxiety moments again. Then my cycle not doing what it was supposed to. Then my appt and ultra sound (I had poka dots) and then my scalp. And now depression with Anxiety.
  • Sleep apnea — when breathing stops for short periods of time while asleep. I've been tested for this but yet to have my followup. It got rescheduled for the 21st of February.
  • Here is a bit of exciting news though...... I get to have Lasik done next Friday!!!! Yeah! Thanks to Branden winning Fantasy Football.
  • And just in time as my contacts have died and of course 3 days before I have to wear my glasses for a week before my appt (no contacts allowed) Tessa breaks my glasses. I hope hot glue will work and you won't be able to tell. I have state boards on Monday!

I need to vent

I need to vent and because I have no one to talk to at this particular point in time and I'll go mad if I don't get this off my chest. Plus I type faster than I write. I'm venting to my blog. And I'm sorry if my "gift" has ever upset any of you.

I have this "gift". I can , in seconds, upset someone like no other! I can't tell ya how I do it because I don't even know!!! Even my husband who knows me better than anyone get's all worked up. I can't fix it! I don't know how I broke it in the 1st place! I ask, and no one will say. OR the thing they tell me makes me think, "What?!? How did you get, "I think you're fat" Out of "Hey, this really cute shirt doesn't fit me and I'd thought you'd like it."
NOTE: I don't ever put secret messages in my words, or hints or clues! I try to tell it like I see it or feel it. That's it. If I say the shirt doesn't fit me and I thought you might like it, it means. Hey, this shirt is so cute and would look so good on you. (Who cares about what size it is!!!!!!!)

And guess what! Even though no one will tell me exactly what I did, punishment comes non the less. Sad tears for me because I hate making people sad, slilence from them (those that I upset). And what stinks about it is this: I am not a spiteful, hurtful, angry, witchy, get back at you, I'm offended, you did this to me, you forgot this, I dont' like you, or you didn't do this so I"m going to freak out kind of person!!!!! I just try to love people and hope to be loved. I'm not perfect, I make mistakes. But can't there just be one person in my life who can just not worry about whatever it is I super screw up?! Or the very least, talk to me about it?? They all act like they have never done or said anything that has hurt me!
But guess what! NEWS FLASH! Most likely you have said or done something to me that was hurtful. Some very hurtful.
I just chose not to worry about it. To try and understand that you might have been having a bad day, or that there was some reasonable explanation for it. Maybe I deserved it? LOL. What a joke. So much for treat others as you'd have others treat you. It's impossible for me to make everyone happy all of the time. And it feels fantastic when my "gift" effects those that are most important to me. Particularly my husband. He's the one person I hate upsetting and I hate making him unhappy!!! I don't want to be one of those wives who fall under all the jokes of being a nag, or dramatic, or whiny or whatever. I want him to be happy. The one person that is the most important to me. I want to be his person. I want to be the one person that no matter what is going on, he can see me or look at me and smile. The person he wants to hang out with when he's having a bad day. (He's that for me) Can I do that for him?! Nope. It's heart breaking. No matter how hard I try, this thing that I do gets in the way every time, no matter how much I love or care about the other person. It's no fun when you think of a person as your best friend but you're not claimed as theirs. They're your 1st choice but you're not theirs.

Talk to me about it! N0? Oh, ok. Continue giving me the silent treatment. I'm not even here. No worries that I'm totally upset and sad and worried that I upset you. No worries that I want to fix whatever it was that I did and say sorry. Hey no problem.
I'll just wait.
Why? Because I have another gift. I CARE.
I care for real, despite how I am treated or what skewed view others have of the reality of who I am. I can't help but care. I don't know how to not care. I can't lie to save my life and I have no desire to hurt anyone. Even those who really could care less about me and who have purposefully hurt me because they just don't like me. ( I do care for them from very far away though!)
